We understand everyone is anxious to get back on track with their drivers ed program. Our first step toward returning to normal, is to resume online Behind-the-Wheel scheduling. On May 20 @ 4:00pm we will be posting some June and July dates. PLEASE NOTE: This is a LIMITED re-opening. We wanted to open as soon as possible, but due to resource constraints, and a backlog of demand, it will take several weeks to ramp up to full capacity.  We will be adding additional BTW dates in the coming weeks. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work through this ramping up process.

We will be sending another update on JUNE 1, once we get through this initial phase of re-opening, and have a better understanding of our supply and demand picture for BTW lessons.

Here are some Important scheduling notes:

  • We plan to add more BTW dates to the schedule in the coming weeks.
  • As we open the calendar on 5/20, we will be initially limiting the reservations to ONE lesson per month.
    • We understand that many of you are looking to make up for lost time or meet certain timelines. As much as we would like, it is not possible to immediately re-open and make up every cancelled lesson.  We have been working to get our instructors back online as well as increase our capacity.  Unfortunately, this will take a little time.  We want to get everyone back on track as much as you do.
  • In our June 1 update, we will let you know…
    • when we are returning to the TWO lesson per month limit.
    • how to be put on our Call List (for when we get late cancellations)
    • how to let us know about any special situations.

We want to continue to be responsive to customer requests, so we ask everyone to thoroughly read our updates and FAQ, before reaching out to us with scheduling questions, so we can focus our energy on ramping up our BTW capacity faster.

If your scheduling question is in regard to when we can schedule additional BTW lessons, we ask that you wait until after our June 1 update, as we will not be in a position to provide an answer before then. For the quickest turnaround, we recommend SUBMITTING SCHEDULING RELATED QUESTIONS VIA EMAIL.

NOTE: We will be requiring instructors and students to wear facemasks. (we will NOT be providing them for students, so please take this time to obtain one, if you do not already have one. Students without masks will not be allowed to take the lesson and will be treated as a no-show).

Below is a list of answers to Frequently Asked Questions.  (Information is accurate as of 5/8/20).

    • DMV Service Centers will be resuming instruction permit testing beginning Monday 5/11/20.
      • If you have an MV3001 form dated more than 60 days in the past, please use the Contact Us link on this page to request an updated form.
    • Beginning Monday 5/11/20 students who are under the age of 18 and have completed their classroom and behind the wheel lessons may be eligible to have their road test waived to obtain their Probationary license online at this link.  Please direct any questions regarding the new test waiver program to the DMV (608-264-7447).
    • The DMV is not enforcing the 60-day rule during this time (you do not have to schedule your first lesson within 60 days of receiving your permit).
    • Students’ instruction permits are valid for 12 months and can be renewed for another 12 months.
    • Will we be allowing more than 2 sessions per month with the instructor?  No, we have a similar capacity for lessons as we did prior to the shutdown, with a backlog of lessons we are trying to catch up on. Unfortunately, we were not able to add additional instructors during the shutdown. We are still looking to add capacity, but that will take time.
    • Can any of the BTW lesson requirements be waived?  No. The DMV still requires all BTW lessons to be completed. The DMV has decided to pilot the road test waiver program, because their data shows that 16-17 year olds that have completed the FULL drivers ed program, have a very high pass rate.  They have no intention of removing the BTW lesson requirements as they view those as a critical success factor behind the high pass rates. We have no authority to change any of the DMVs regulations. If you have any questions or suggestions, you can contact the DMV directly at 608-264-7447.
    •  Do I need any paperwork for the road test waiver?  No, upon completion of your BTW program, we enter your completion into the DMV system electronically.  You can verify that you have been entered by logging into your account and looking at the User Notes field.  When we enter your completion, we also put a note there with the date it was entered.
    • I completed the online classroom and have not received my MV3001 form in the mail yet?  Once the DMV suspended issuing instruction permits, we also suspended sending out mv3001 forms, as they are signed and dated and do expire.  We wanted to wait until we knew when the DMV would resume issuing instruction permits. All pending mv3001 forms have been mailed out. Any recent online completions will be mailed out within 1-2 business days.
    • What safety procedures are being followed?  Instructors and students will be required to wear facemasks.  All vehicles will be wiped down prior to lessons, and students will be provided with hand sanitizer to clean their hands prior to entering the vehicle.
